Something to Look Forward to

The Most Beautiful Places to Get Lost in Zagreb

I am sitting on a terrace and drinking my coffee completely alone, but with a smile on my face. The afternoon sun rays warming my cheeks and slight breeze ruffling my hair. 'Oh such a beautiful day' – I thought. No, this is not the beginning of some novel. This is a description of my ideal day. :)

With the beginning of spring, everything revives. Thus, with the first buds on the trees, Zagreb terraces flower, too. Walking through the streets, each of them entices you to sit on one of its benches or chairs and take a break with a cup of coffee, freshly squeezed juice or a piece of cake. Some terraces are hidden, but they are still located in the heart of Zagreb. Some of them are hidden in the luxurious greenery, and some are located in the most beautiful Zagreb streets.

But, what is common to all these terraces?

Each of them has something that is distinctive and special that makes you go back. Therefore, my dear reader, I bring you the list of five Zagreb's most beautiful terraces. Who knows, maybe after this article, one special terrace will become your favorite place, too.

Escape from the center

Yes, this is possible. Number one is definitely a cult cafe Palainovka, which even today attracts many passers-by because of its location and ambiance. Palainovka is located in the Upper town in the magnificent green oasis. This terrace with a view on Zagreb is the most beautiful in the late afternoon. So, it doesn't surprise that this terrace is declared one of the most beautiful terraces in Zagreb. In its quiet environment, you can really enjoy and relax from the daily hustle and bustle of Zagreb.

If you go to the Lower town, on your way to St Mark's Square, next to the famous Stone Gate, you will come across Cafe Gallery Lav. Its romantic environment, the quiet, unique and modern ambiance will make you stay a little longer in this historic center, which is well known for Zagreb's myths and legends.

If you are more interested in the afternoon moving, then the Melin terrace is an ideal solution for you. Legendary cafe in the Kožarska Street was recently renovated and it looks great now. Sipping your favorite drink here will be like visiting a museum. Melin has put televisions from the 50s instead of tables, and some televisions are acting like shelves above the bar, which is also decorated with an old trumpet. The terrace is always filled with the light notes of jazz because there is always a guest who puts the record on the gramophone, so the Melina terrace often becomes a dance floor. But what impresses me most at Melin is the interaction with people. The first thing the waiter asks you when you come is how you are today, or if you like the music, and then he will ask you what you want to drink. In Melin, you do not need friends. You just come and sit, and friends are all around you.

Cocktails in the Garden of Eden

Another breathtaking terrace is the one in the center of town, or more precisely in Gajeva Street, the one belonging to Lemon bar. In fact, having a drink in Lemon bar is like having a drink in the atrium of the Archaeological Museum. Because of its unique environment, you will feel like you are in the Garden of Eden. If you need a break from your daily obligations or shopping in a town, stop by Lemon bar and taste some of the various cocktails and enjoy the museum exhibits.

But, you would still like to get away from the noise of the city center? Do not worry. I have a solution. But before I discover the secret, I have to ask - Did you as a child want to have a small house on a tree that would be only a small part of your universe?

Well, if the answer is positive, then I can tell you that Zagreb offers its own part of the universe,  a most unusual garden. As the name suggests, it is a special cafe that you will come across in the vicinity of the tramway loop near the Sava bridge. Thick shade, house on a tree, and its address are all information you need.

Now, it's your turn to experience this place. I hope you liked this short description of my top five terraces. So, long story short. Get lost and enjoy yourself in discovering hidden places. And, of course, #LoveZagreb
